Sydney Bennett

Sydney Townsend Bennett is joining the NORCO coaching staff after years of coaching and playing experience, including a decorated career at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

Bennett played as a DS/Libero for the Huskers from 2014-2017 where she won National Championships in 2015 and 2017. During her senior year, Bennett  played in all 125 sets and finished the season with 309 digs and 22 service aces. Bennett posted double-digit digs in 14 matches, including both the NCAA Semifinal against Penn State (13 digs) and the NCAA Final against Florida (11 digs). She was a NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee in 2018, and was awarded the NCAA Elite 90 Award in 2016 and 2017, the Nebraska Student-Athlete HERO Leadership Award in 2016 and  Nebraska's Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award in 2017 and 2018.

Bennett also has an impressive academic career. She was named CoSIDA Academic All-District Second Team (2017), Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2016, 2017, 2018), and Academic All-Big Ten (2015, 2016, 2017; Beach-2016, 2017).  

After her time playing for the Huskers, Bennett coached at Nebraska Juniors for 5 years. 

For the 2023-2024 season Sydney will be the assistant coach of 17 Black.

Fun Fact: Sydney is currently finishing her Ph.D program in immunology and virology!
