2008-2009 Tryouts

Tryouts are completely open to everyone interested in playing for NORCO volleyball. EVERY athlete, whether a new or former NORCO player, has the same opportunity to be selected to any of our teams. Team selection will be based upon the athlete's skills, position, work ethic, leadership, coachability, and attitude. All athletes will be evaluated by many different coaches and every effort will be made to place each athlete on the most appropriate team.

All NORCO teams (regional and national) are competitive and, as such, the coaches (and players) on every NORCO team will be held to the same expectations and standards.

*Actual number of teams formed may be increased or decreased at all age groups based upon the number of participants, talent, skill level, coaches and gym availability.

Negative recruiting

It is common for clubs to make negative comments about other clubs, particularly those that are more competitive, in attempt to increase their try-out numbers. NORCO will not participate in this type of negativity. If you have a question about our club, ask us. If you have a question about another club, ask them.

Selections

All team selections will be based on skills, positions, attitude, work ethic, coachability, team chemistry, and athletic ability. An average of ten players will be selected per team. The number of teams formed at each age may be increased based upon tryout numbers.

• National (Travel) Teams - 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, Black: If a player commits to a National Team, they have committed to play at all mandated tournaments (2-4 National Tournaments plus Regional Tournaments) and are responsible for all travel fees prior to tournament date.
• Regional Teams - All Blue and White teams and 13, 12 Black: If a player commits to a Regional Team, they have commiteted to play at all mandated tournaments (In-state Tournaments).

Note: All players have the option to try-out for ONLY Regional (Non-Traveling) Teams if they so desire

Cuts

Unfortunately it is impossible to keep everyone on a team. No matter how it is done, it is an unpleasant situation. Our goal is to give players a letter on the last try-out session comfirming their selection or status. If this is impossible, phone calls will be made within 24-48 hours.

If a player previously selected declines their offer, players initially cut may be asked to join a team. This situation occurs every year. Players may also be moved up during the season.

Try-out Cost

• $50 (Non-Refundable) in cash or check payable to NORCO Juniors Volleyball (T-shirt is included). It is imperative that you attend all try-out dates to be fully evaluated. If your past account has not been paid in full to NORCO or to previous clubs (RMR Policy), you will not be allowed to try-out. All required paperwork must be properly signed and turned in before any player is allowed on the court.

Membership Deposits

There is a mandatory player deposit of $400 that must be submitted the first night of registration.

• If a player does not make a team, or chooses not to accept an offered position, the $400 deposit (check) will be destroyed.
• For players who verbally accept team offers, the required deposit will not be refunded and will be applied towards the membership fee.

Registration for tryouts

Express Check-in: Bring all 6 (or 7 with proof of birth) items listed below to the NORCO Skills Clinic. Your information will be processed ahead of time and when you get to tryouts all you will need to do is pick up a number.

On-site registration: The day of the tryout, you must have the following items to register (there are no exceptions):

1. NORCO Registration Check List
2. NORCO Player Registration
   • ^NEWON-LINE Player Registration with NORCO^NEW
   • You will need to PRINT and bring a copy of the confirmation page
3. RMR/USAV On-Line Registration
   • THIS MUST BE COMPLETED ON-LINE BEFORE YOUR FIRST TRYOUT SESSION
   • New this year: The RMR Requires a $45 Membership Fee to be paid when you register (VISA or MASTERCARD accepted).  This is a ONE TIME, non-refundable fee for the year, assessed by the RMR (not NORCO).  RMR Registration is valid for an entire year for any club you try-out/play for.
   • IMPORTANT: If you are attending tryouts for multiple clubs, make sure you select 'UNDECIDED' when you are asked what club you are affiliated with.  If you are ONLY attending NORCO Tryouts and NOT ATTENDING any others you can immediately select 'NORCO VBC'
   • If you played in the RMR Region LAST YEAR, select 'Junior Membership' Under the RENEWING column and follow ALL instructions.
   • If you DID NOT play in the RMR Region last year, select 'Junior Membership' under the NEW column and follow ALL instructions.
   • You must have the PRINTED RMR Membership Confirmation Page to tryout.

   • Printed when you registered with USAV/RMR Volleyball
   • Get a new copy here
5. Check for $50 tryout fee
   • MUST be seperate from the $400 deposit check
6. Check for $400 deposit
   • MUST be seperate from the $50 Tryout check
   • This check will be DESTROYED (NOT returned) if a player is not offered a position or chooses not to accept an offered position OR applied towards your balance due if a player chooses to accept a position on a NORCO team.
7. Copy of player's Birth Certificate OR Passport
   • Only needed if not a NORCO player during the '08 season

Age Divisions

• 18 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1990
• 17 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1991
• 16 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1992
• 15 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1993
• 14 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1994
• 13 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1995
• 12 and Under Division: Players who were born on or after September 1, 1996

Tryout Events & Dates

It is not mandatory to attend all try-out sessions, however, it is HIGHLY recommended that you do attend all sessions to allow coaches an opprotunity to better evaluate you. If you absolutely can't make a session, please speak to the NORCO coaching staff to see if other arrangements can be made.
